EVONEWS - ISSUE 15 - AUGUST 2008
WE ARE EIGHT!
Evo is eight! Doesn’t time fly? Eight years ago we booked some local DJs for a party in a run-down function hall on the outskirts of Milford, and photocopied some homemade flyers, and quite honestly we didn’t have a clue what we were doing! But it worked, and here we are, eight years later, still be putting on events in Pembrokeshire! Who would have thought it? There have been ups and downs over the years, but here we are, older, fatter and balder, but still on a mission to put on the best dance music nights in Wales… and beyond.
BIG SUMMER BIRTHDAY SPECIAL!
Forget the Olympics’ opening ceremony, because on 08.08.08 (this Friday) we will be celebrating our eighth birthday with the biggest EVER line-up in the history of West Wales! If you haven’t heard about it by now, you must have spent the last month trekking in outer Mongolia, and if that’s the case, welcome back, and prepare to be blown away!
We have teamed up with Drum ‘n’ Bass masters, Bazooka (also celebrating their birthday) to bring you the ultimate collaboration event featuring the last word in Drum ‘n’ Bass and Hardcore performers.
Topping the bill in the main arena are two of the biggest names in Drum ‘n’ Bass, Mampi Swift and Sub Focus, both of whom are regularly heard on BBC Radio 1, plus Dutch superstars Noisia, whose track ‘Diplodocus’ is tune of the month in this month’s Mixmag! With not a weak link in the line-up, also performing are Nicky Blackmarket and Logistics, plus a handful of Wales’ finest DJs.
Downstairs is no let down either, with the legend that is DJ Sy, along with Scott Brown, Vibes, Squad-E and Evo veteran, Billy Bunter, all up close and personal, and spinning the freshest Hardcore this side of Dreamscape! With TWELVE MCs across both rooms, including Fearless, Stamina and Storm, this is a carnival of underground dance to make all true ravers cream their jeans!
It’s impossible to list all of the attractions at this summer extravaganza, but rest assured that this is THE rave of the summer, and will go down in Welsh clubbing legend. Will you be telling your grandkids that you were there? See the enclosed flyer for all the extra info!
THE ‘HOUSE’ PARTY OF THE SUMMER!
Although it’s hard to believe beneath the grey skies and drizzle, summer really is here, and from Miami to Ibiza, the holiday sound has always been uplifting, funky House, and now it’s arriving in Pembrokeshire. On Saturday August 16th, our sister brand, ‘Panache’, launches Pembrokeshire’s first true House night in the intimate setting of ‘The Venue’ in Quay Street, Haverfordwest.
With a line-up of talented Welsh DJs, dancers, a champagne reception and top quality light and sound, Panache promises to be a real alternative to the usual Saturday night round of seventies hits and chart R’n’B, and it’s aimed at the classy, clued-up, clubbers of the county, who have been waiting for something different. Described as ‘Sundrenched House and Pumping Disco’ the sound of Panache will instantly conjure up glamorous summer nights in the Med, even if the Welsh weather leaves a lot to be desired.
Panache has been running successfully in the Cardiff area for over a year, and since moving back to Pembrokeshire a few months ago, Panache head honcho and resident DJ, Eddie Loco, has been planning to bring the funky and uplifting sound of House music to the home crowd.
He says, ‘I was first converted from Trance to House back in 2002 when I was blown away by Erick Morillo at Pacha in Ibiza, and even though I’ve DJed as far a field as China, I’ve always wanted to bring quality House music to the people of Pembrokeshire. With the current popularity of record labels like Hed Kandi and Fierce Angel, I know that the time is now right to launch Panache in Haverfordwest.
Eddie and the team are delighted to have secured K-Klass to headline the launch party on August 16th. The group shot to fame in the nineties with their smash hits, ‘Let Me Show You’ and ‘Rhythm is a Mystery’. Far from resting on past successes, K-Klass went on to remix tracks by pop artists including Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell, S Club 7 (‘Bring It All Back’) and M People. Their remix of ‘Baby Come On Over’ by Samantha Mumba was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002.
Unlike almost all other real dance nights in Wales, Panache is taking place on a Saturday night, which is great news for those who work in shops, hair salons, beauticians, and other businesses, where Friday clubbing just isn’t an option. So for all you people who are looking for a special Saturday night out, check out the enclosed flyer, grab your Gucci sunnies, and head down to Panache for a taste of summer, whatever the Pembrokeshire weather!
THIS MONTH’S WINNER!
The winner of this month’s members’ prize draw is Victoria Acton from Haverfordwest. She wins two tickets to Panache on Saturday 17th August at The Venue, Haverfordwest (see article), featuring K-Klass, Eddie Loco and friends! Congratulations, Victoria, you’ll find your tickets in with this edition of Evonews! See you there!
For all other members, there’s a cut-out voucher for you to save a pound off your entry to Panache. This means that if you turn up before 11pm, you’ll get in for only six pounds, AND get a free glass of bubbly! Good value or what?
